If we are closed.
Do not wait for us. Go to a hospital emergency department now, or call 911, if you have:
- swelling in the face, mouth or neck that is spreading
- any trouble breathing or swallowing
- bleeding that will not stop
- an injury to the jaw or the head
Leave us a message with your name, your number and what happened. Messages are picked up when the office opens, and we call you back then. We are shut Monday, Tuesday and Sunday, and overnight the rest of the week.
Until then: rinse with warm salty water, take the painkiller you would normally take for a headache, and keep your head raised when you lie down. Do not put an aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue.

A knocked-out adult tooth
Hold it by the crown, not the root. If you can, put it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk and come straight in.

Swelling
A cold compress against the cheek, twenty minutes at a time. Swelling that is spreading is the one sign that cannot wait for us: that is the hospital, now.

A broken tooth
Rinse with warm water and keep any pieces. Avoid chewing on that side until you are seen.

A crown or filling that has come out
Keep it, clean it and bring it with you. Do not glue it back yourself.
